“Το τραγούδι του Έλληνα” είναι έναπανέμορφο ποίημα γραμμένο από τον Έλληνα Ποιητή Laurence Anis. Ο Laurence γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσεστη Βηρυτό του Λιβάνου. Μετανάστευσε στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες το 1978 λόγω τουεμφυλίου πολέμου και των θρησκευτικών συγκρούσεων στο Λίβανο.
Τα γραπτά του Laurence είναι διάσημαγια το θάρρος του, την ευθύτητά του και τα ειλικρινή και συγκινητικά λόγια του.

"Song of the Antiochian Greek" is a wonderful poem written by the Levantine Hellene Poet Laurence Anis. Laurence was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He immigrated to the United States in 1978 due to the civil war and religious clashes in Lebanon. Laurence writings are famous for his courage, his straightforwardness, and his honest and touching words.

في عام 1860 خوفا من حدوث انتفاضة ناجحة مماثلة لتلك التي حدثت في اليونان، أثار الحاكم العثماني  المسلمين المحليين لمهاجمة  المسيحيين المقيمين في سوريا ولبنان.

الروم أو "Rum" من بلاد الشام هم أقلية عرقية ثقافية تتكون من نسل المسيحيين الناطقين باليونانية فيما سبق . ومن المعلوم أن  "أمة الروم" أبرزها تتكون من الروم الأرثوذكس والطوائف الكاثوليكية اليونانية من سوريا ولبنان وإسرائيل، ومقاطعة هاتاي جنوب تركيا.

 اسمهم مشتق من الكلمة اليونانية Ρωμιοί، وهذا يعني الرومان. و هذا يشير إلى أنهم  الروم الشرقيين أو الى التراث "البيزنطي". لذلك، "Rum"، تعني حرفيا "الرومانيين الشرقيين" أو "اليونانيين الأسيويين"

On September 10^th, all walks of life from Clergy to Academics, gathered at the National War Museum of Athens in order to learn more about the ongoing Genocide of Christians in the East. Organized by the Greek Association “Friends of the Nation Tamatos”. The event lasted four hours, and had such notable speakers as Nigerian-American Phil-Hellene Dr. Sam Chekwas, and the President of the Antiochian Greek Levant Party Rodrigue el-Khoury.

OA Activists respond to Arabist Propaganda from Archimandrite Christoforos Atallah

On August 2^nd, OA Activists released a video message, in both Arabic and English, in response to the outrageous claims of Arabist Archimandrite Christoforos Atallah. Archimandrite Atallah is one of many Arabist figures, which hope to topple the Greek-speaking leadership of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, in order to continue their mission of Arabization of the indigenous Roum of the Holy Land, Palestine, and Jordan. 

Roum and Aramean communities Rally in the Holy Land

This past Sunday, members of the Greek Orthodox and Aramean communities staged a peaceful protest in Haifa, in order to express their outrage at the continued persecution of their brethren throughout the Middle East. Participates gathered with signs and flags, and called for a peaceful resolution to the war in Gaza, as well as for an end to the on-going Genocide of Christians in Syria and Iraq.

In 1860, fearing the possibility of a successful uprising similar to the one in Greece, the ruling Ottomans influenced the local Muslim population into attacking the Christian community of present day Syria and Lebanon. There are several reasons for this assault. The Ottoman powers had been compromised by many outside forces, such as the imperial powers of Europe and Russia, who wanted to trash the empire, but not, in a way, that would hurt European interests. By the time of the attack the Ottoman Empire was called “The sick man of Europe” due to its demise. When the massacres, which started in present day Lebanon reached the Christian quarters of Damascus, over 10’000 Antiochians were forced to give their lives for the crime of simply being Roum.

In a recently released video on YouTube, the Grand Sunni Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun named the Turkish government, as the guilty party behind the kidnapping of both the Greek and Syriac Orthodox Archbishops of Aleppo. As per the Grand Mufti, Turkey’s motive seems to be connected to the issue of confiscated Christian properties, and the possibility of the Syriac Church returning its Patriarchate seat back to the city of Antioch.

The Roum or ‘Rum’ of the Levant are an ethno-cultural minority made up of the descendants of former Koine-Greek speaking Christians. This fragmented “Roum Nation” is most notably made up of the Greek Orthodox and Greek Catholic communities of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and the Hatay province of Southern Turkey. Their name derives from the Greek word Ρωμιοί, meaning Romans; and refers to their Eastern Roman or ‘Byzantine’ heritage. Therefore, ‘Rum’, literally means ‘Eastern Roman’ or ‘Asian Greek’.

April 6^th, or as it was referred to in 1914 “Black Easter” commemorates the deportations and massacres that initiated in Thrace, and later spread to Asia Minor and Pontos. This often forgotten phase of the Ottoman Greek Genocide is commonly referred to by Thracians as ‘the Genocide of Thracian Hellenism’.
