Remember our 300! Remember Sergius!

Today, on the 1,381 Anniversary of the Battle of Dathin, we remember the 300 Rûm Soldiers that gave their lives alongside their commander, Sergius, for a Romaic Levant. For the Rûm people, today is not a day celebration or bravery, but one of mourning and self-reflection. For although generations have past, the wolves which surrounded Sergius still encircle us.

Το τραγούδι του Έλληνα (Song of the Antiochian Greek/أغنية رومي )

“Το τραγούδι του Έλληνα” είναι έναπανέμορφο ποίημα γραμμένο από τον Έλληνα Ποιητή Laurence Anis. Ο Laurence γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσεστη Βηρυτό του Λιβάνου. Μετανάστευσε στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες το 1978 λόγω τουεμφυλίου πολέμου και των θρησκευτικών συγκρούσεων στο Λίβανο.
Τα γραπτά του Laurence είναι διάσημαγια το θάρρος του, την ευθύτητά του και τα ειλικρινή και συγκινητικά λόγια του.

"Song of the Antiochian Greek" is a wonderful poem written by the Levantine Hellene Poet Laurence Anis. Laurence was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He immigrated to the United States in 1978 due to the civil war and religious clashes in Lebanon. Laurence writings are famous for his courage, his straightforwardness, and his honest and touching words.

الابادة المنظمة للانطاكيين في سوريا الرومية:

في عام 1860 خوفا من حدوث انتفاضة ناجحة مماثلة لتلك التي حدثت في اليونان، أثار الحاكم العثماني  المسلمين المحليين لمهاجمة  المسيحيين المقيمين في سوريا ولبنان.

 تعددت أسباب هذا الهجوم، ا ذ تم التلاعب بالسلطنة العثمانية من قبل العديد من القوى الخارجية، مثل القوى الامبريالية الأوروبية وروسيا، التي أرادت الاطاحة بالسلطنة ولكن بطريقة ما من دون أن تتضرر مصالحها.

ليسوا عربا، ولكنهم الإغريقيين: من هم الروم الموجودين في المشرق "بلاد الشام"؟

الروم أو "Rum" من بلاد الشام هم أقلية عرقية ثقافية تتكون من نسل المسيحيين الناطقين باليونانية فيما سبق . ومن المعلوم أن  "أمة الروم" أبرزها تتكون من الروم الأرثوذكس والطوائف الكاثوليكية اليونانية من سوريا ولبنان وإسرائيل، ومقاطعة هاتاي جنوب تركيا.

 اسمهم مشتق من الكلمة اليونانية Ρωμιοί، وهذا يعني الرومان. و هذا يشير إلى أنهم  الروم الشرقيين أو الى التراث "البيزنطي". لذلك، "Rum"، تعني حرفيا "الرومانيين الشرقيين" أو "اليونانيين الأسيويين"
